Revit Architecture & BIM Modeling

Shape the building. Keep the information connected.

Explore a building-model workflow from levels and spatial planning to coordinated plans, elevations, sections and schedules.

The workflow

From first reference to final drawing.

From a design idea to a coordinated building model. These four stages describe a typical approach—not a claim that any specific project has been delivered.

  1. 01

    Set up the building logic

Establish levels, grids and project coordinates. Organize views and linked references before modelling.

  2. 02

    Develop the architectural model

Build walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows and rooms with consistent families and parameters.

  3. 03

    Coordinate across disciplines

Review structural and building-services references, openings and model changes with the wider team.

  4. 04

    Produce clear documentation

Prepare plans, elevations, sections, room schedules and organized drawing sheets from the model.

Model handoffs

What goes in. What comes out.

Scope, detail and file formats depend on a project brief, modelling standard and discipline responsibilities.

Typical inputs
Concept drawings, CAD/PDF backgrounds, project grids, levels and design criteria
Model focus
Architecture, room data, building envelope, family consistency and coordination
Typical outputs
Views, annotated sheets, room schedules and agreed model exports

Good to know

Useful distinctions.

Is an architectural BIM model the same as a 3D rendering?

Not quite. A BIM model contains structured building elements and project information; visualizations are only one possible output.

Can architecture be coordinated with structure and MEP?

Yes. Referenced discipline models can support alignment and coordination, subject to the project’s agreed modelling standards.

Explore another role

The same model, a different focus.
